We just got back from a much-needed vacation! We went to three different destinations and it was so fun, I love summer!
Here are 15 wellness travel tips I’ve learned in the last 3 years:
Pack nutritious snacks to set your trip up for success- Here’s a list of snacks I packed: @wonderfulpistachios, @thatsit Fruit Bars, @solelyfruit Fruit Jerky, @thefrootthief Whips, @bearfruitsnack.us , @chomps Beef and Turkey Sticks, @RXBar , @mooala_koala Almond Milk and @SevenSundaysCereal, @snackjacksons Sweet Potato Chips, @Sietefoods cookies, @SimpleMills snacks, @WildPlanetFood Tuna Pouches and @PrimalKitchenFoods Mayo to go with @Sprouts Grain-Free Crackers, homemade paleo trail mix, @hukitchen chocolate bars. If you are driving, you can fill up an ice chest with boiled eggs, berries, cherries, apples, oranges, and cold-pressed juices like @PressedJuicery Juice. For kids, you can also pack them cheese sticks, applesauce pouches, and yogurt pouches.
Balance your snacks and meals- Regulating blood sugar is so important! This helps with energy and mood plus more! Never eat a carb alone. Always pair it with a protein and fat or at least protein or fat. When you can, on the trip, eat colorful foods. Protein, fat, carbs, and color (think the rainbow). Also, don’t skip out on fiber! This is so important, especially since the system can get backed up on trips!
Don’t deprive yourself of your favorite treats! Make more nutritous choices and swaps where you can, but realize it’s not going to look perfect on a trip. Give yourself grace, and don’t stress about making sure everything is 100% perfect. If you have dietary restrictions, pack your favorite treats and look-up restaurants, bakeries, and juice bars near you that would have some options for your restrictions. I love @hukitchen chocolate, so I packed Hu chocolate bars, and I was close to an @aubergine.kitchen on our trip so I ordered a chocolate milkshake and another time their ice cream Sunday! Always check out local places too! I tried an açai bowl at a local juice bar and it was so yummy! Enjoy new food, experiences, and savor every bite!
Keep your supplements and medications with you, and set alarms to remind you to take them. My alarms drove my sister crazy! Haha but it really helped keep me on track. If you can, buy a little travel size pill box to keep in your purse! Make sure to buy a locked pouch if you’re around little ones, so they don’t sneak into your bag on the trip! You don’t want to chance any little ones getting into your medication box! When you’re at your destination, be sure to keep your medication up high so they can’t get into it.
Carry over your morning and evening routine. Do you have a morning and evening routine? What is your morning and evening routine? Whether you workout, do breathwork, or journal, carry this over the best you can. This is a big game-changer for me!
When you’re in a pinch, be creative with meals. If you have dietary restrictions like I do and have to be pretty strict with what you eat (thank you lupus haha) but there’s only a Sonic in the town and you know if you ate it, it would make you sick, then run into Walmart and grab a rotisserie chicken and Siete crunchy taco shells. There you go, you now have dinner on the go!
Practice nervous system regulation and manage stress. Managing stress will help you enjoy the trip to the fullest and will help you live in the present more and magnify each moment. Nervous system regulation ideas: deep belly breathing, humming, spending time in nature, aromatherapy, a brief cold shower at the end of your shower. These are just some ideas.
Make sure you’re getting quality sleep! Do your best to carry over your same sleep schedule. Wear a sleep mask, ear plugs if you don’t have little children to listen for, and create a dark and calm environment. Bring an essential oil diffuser! My favorite essential oil to use is Lavendar.
Bring a water bottle, pack electrolytes, and stay hydrated. Don’t forget to replenish with minerals! Our cells need minerals or they’ll starve! Some electrolyte brands without all the unnecessary ingredients are @Just.ingredients , @Needed, unflavored @drinklmnt, @TaylorDukeWellness, and @BodyBio Elyte.
Keep your digestive system happy! Not only will applying many of the tips above help with digestion but here are some additional tips: For constipation, you can consider packing magnesium citrate and taking it before bed- as this can help relieve it. You can also consider packing ginger tea (like @piquelife brand) to have on hand. This is also nice and can help with nausea as well.
Pack supplements and medication for the whole family in case anyone gets sick! I love homeopathy (@drelanaroumell has an awesome doc mom membership that gives you a lot of protocols that include homeopathy remedies), and I also love having @Genexa medicine on hand.
Bring your favorite book or an activity you would enjoy! Enjoy yourself! What’s that book you’ve been wanting to read? I love art, so I brought my favorite markers, a travel-size paint kit, and I also brought a book I’ve been wanting to read.
Move your body! Find enjoyable ways to move your body. Have the whole family join-in. Go on walks, hikes, go to a local park, or check out the fitness room!
Enjoy nature! What are some local spots you need to check out? Have fun seeing new places, this world is so beautiful!
Relax and have fun. Yes, carry over your personal “routine” the best you can, but remember a schedule and routine is a guideline, it’s not law. I like to say, keep a schedule with flexibility! Just enjoy yourself and HAVE FUN! Relax and notice all 5 of your senses!
